Moi moi is a very delicious Nigerian food made with steamed grounded beans and filled up with tasty spices.
Moi moi is a general food for Nigerians because all the Tribes or ethnic nationalities in Nigeria,both in the North and in the South enjoy it, it is usually served in occasions, festivals etc because it is a very common and acceptable food in Nigeria, and it can be served or taken with Jollof Rice,Fried Rice,White Rice,Bread, and even to drink/soak garri, Pap/Akamu etc.
Moi moi can be prepared/wrapped in many ways like wrapping with foils, plastic and rubber cups,bowels, aluminum tins etc.
INGREDIENTSOF MOI MOI
300g of Beans or much more depending of your quantity.
2cubes of seasoning cubes or more based of the quantity of Beans.
Eggs or Meat.
First of all,soak the Beans in a water for about 1-1hour 30 minutes, or over night,and peal or remove the skin or coat gradually till till there is non left and the Beans becomes white and coatless. Take the Beans to a grinder or you can grind it yourself if you have a good grinder,add crayfish,Onion to it and grind together.
If you are using Beans flour,that means half of your work is already done,all you have to do now is to prepare your ingredients.
Wash your containers and oil it on the inside. Boil your eggs and remove the shell or if you are using meat, wash it with salt and steam it.
Pour the Beans into a bowl and stir,keep stirring and at the same time be adding all the ingredients and water to make it a bit light. NOTE.(don’t make it too light or watery). Add vegetable oil. Now pour the Beans into your containers and add eggs or Meat into them, after that, put the containers into a pot, put small water at the bottom of the pot and place on fire. NOTE.( It is advisable to place a bag “bagco bag or rice bag” or small pieces of stick at the bottom of the pot before pouring water and putting the moi moi or beans). This is to avoid the melting of the rubber containers from the excessive heat coming from the bottom of the pot.
Steaming duration depends on the quantity of the moi moi, but it is always advisable to steam for about 1hour or 1 hour and 30minuites so that it will be thoroughly done. Insert a knife or spoon into them and if there is no liquid or watery on the knife or spoon,know that it is done now your delicious moi moi is ready, wait till it is cooled off and serve, or you can eat it when it’s hot, that is if you are in a haste or if you have iron tongue, lol.
